Let's work together to cancel apathy and use our voices to create real change around important public policy decisions.
For many of us, this year has left us looking around saying, “WTF?” The world has always been a messy place, but it just seems more...amplified this year. On top of a worldwide pandemic, ongoing civil rights violations, hurricanes, and murder hornets, it’s an important election year. Quelle horreur!
Election years always bring a barrage of politics-centric headlines and campaign ads. We just can’t seem to get away from the noise. Many of us default to the belief that we don’t make a difference, that our actions don’t count, which leads us to a state of passivity.
Our inaction shapes the world we live in as much as our actions, preventing us from becoming agents of positive change.
How do we change our habits of inaction so we can create the change we want to see?
It all starts with civic engagement! According to Stanford professor Thomas Ehrlich, civic engagement means working to make a difference in the civic life of our communities. It also includes developing the knowledge, skills, values and motivation to make that difference.
At its very core, civic engagement demands community involvement. When we see ourselves as essential participants in our community, we will feel inspired to share our unique views and talents with others.
This is why we created the Community Action Squad!
It’s a place to connect and encourage each other to take action, and hopefully, build a better world together. We want to empower our community by sharing information, resources, and inspiration. The Community Action Squad will also highlight opportunities for civic engagement, including:
✓ Town halls
✓ Voter registration
✓ Volunteer opportunities
When it’s finally safe to work together IRL, this will be the place to plan and organize!
