Mobilizing the Community Action Squad

As we inch ever closer to the 2022 midterm elections, we’ll be hearing more and more about hot button issues from candidates on both sides. It’s tough to filter through the noise…and even harder to believe our voices actually matter.

We know at its core, civic engagement begins with community involvement. In the months leading up to the 2020 election, we wanted to help our online community create the change they want to see, so we created a tribe called Community Action Squad.

Our idea was to create a place for like-minded people to connect and encourage each other to take action by sharing information, resources, and inspiration. It's been a year and a half, so let's check in with the tribe to see how they're using the latest Visva features!

Our previous update introduced Sections and Modules, which enable tribe leaders to manage the way members view and interact within the tribe.

The main slide out menu shows how tribe leaders are organizing information sharing and mobilization efforts in different cities, using a combination of sections, chat threads, and post channels.

We recently launched Visva Events to make it easier to to get together - online or IRL. The Community Action Squad has an event channel specifically for voter registration drives, which is nested within their Voter Mobilization channel.

Figure 2 shows the current date, as well as the list of all scheduled events. When a tribe member taps into an event, they will be able to see event details, RSVP, comment, and vibe.

In Figure 3, we see how organizers in one city are communicating about an event via the group discussion channel.

Tribe members use the main feed (Fig. 4 & 5) to share information, such as breaking news and important op eds.

In the future, here are a few more ideas we hope will come to fruition with the Community Action Squad:
 ▸  Town halls
 ▸  Fundraisers
 ▸ On-campus meet ups

We'll be checking in with the Community Action Squad again as we get closer to that all-important date in November. In the meantime, here's a throwback to one of our fave election year playlists. Enjoy! ✊
